Wendy the Wanderer

Our lovely home on wheels

Our home of the next year will be our Chausson 720 '22 plate automatic 170bhp diesel engined based on Ford Transit moho.  She's 2.92m tall x 7.2m long and 2.35m wide.  She's a 5 berth with twin bunks at the back and a drop down bed over the lounge at the front and we're lucky enough to have a shower and loo too as well as a small kitchen and fridge.  We decided to go for a bit of comfort as both Guy and I have slightly dodgy backs and it's also lovely to have a consistent place for us to call home which makes things easier for Alex's autism - he has his own space in the van and can close the door, we also have space with the 2nd bunk for Zara to join us for 6 weeks.

We know she's quite large compared to what some people take on a trip like this and she's not full "off road".  But for us she has a good balance of space, practicality and comfort. We have both been driving her around the Devon lanes and are of the view if we can drive her here in the Devon lanes which are very narrow we can drive her anywhere!

Mods we've made:

  • Upgraded battery to 2 110 lithium batteries (have kept a single solar panel) and controller so we can monitor battery consumption

  • All terrain tyres

  • Mud flaps and undersealing

  • Stretchy covers to protect the upholstery

  • We have 2 full sets of service parts we will take with us as we will likely go over the 25k mile service interval

  • We have an OBD Bluetooth sensor and Forscan to allow us to monitor the engine diagnostics and particular the DPF when we are travelling in  countries without ULSD.

We may decide to get her lifted in Canada if we find we need to to improve ground clearance.  She's not too low and doesn't have a huge overhang at the back anyway so hoping we don't need to!
