Where’s Wendy?

Not in Devon any more! I drove Wendy up to Liverpool on the 5th in order for her to be shipped across the wide North Atlantic Ocean all the way to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We spent Monday and Tuesday finishing off packing her full of ‘stuff’ but all hidden away in cupboards and storage areas so that the contents are secure ready for her sea voyage. Emptying the Gaslow LPG canister actually meant burning it off - it took 2 days with two burner rings and making sure we didn’t burn Wendy at the same time.

Leaving our home nearly failed the first time - there is a bit of a skid mark where Wendy lost traction starting up our drive. Perhaps she might have a slight weight imbalance between front and rear? I think she was missing Emma and Alex and had a tiny protest!

After all the prep the journey was uneventful apart from the persistent rain. Liverpool docks was huge with massive earthmovers waiting to be shipped dwarfing Wendy. Lovely people were very efficient, paperwork (one sheet) all in order and within 30 minutes she was parked beside a Reliant Robin (slightly smaller and not Del Boy Trotters machine) just waiting for Atlantic Sail to arrive and take her to Halifax.

Delivering her makes the whole adventure become real and not just a planning exercise! How do I feel? Bit sad leaving her there and missing her bulk beside the house but … the adventure is nearly ready to really start!

But Storm Noa has just delayed Atlantic Sail docking by at least 48 hours!! So what does a sailor do in a storm? Just steam around the North Wales coast waiting for better weather and the right tide. Hopefully Wendy will be loaded on the 14th, just have to wait…..

The start of a big adventure! Reading what you said about Gaslow reminds me to ask what your plans are for the gas system. Have you managed to find an adapter that will fit in the refill nozzle that will enable t weird north American gas hoses to refill the gaslow? The camper we hired in October had removable and refillable gas tanks which I had to carry to a separate area to refill using this strange contraption! It will be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Fingers crossed all goes well with the pick up in Halifax 🤞🏻. Have you delayed your flight because of the shipping delay?
